A review of One Mighty Weekend by JustCircuit Editor Shane Rogers: The world of Disney is certainly a wonderful world! Promoter *Johnny Chisholm's* purchase of major events during Gay Days Orlando just a few short years ago insured that the excitement and joy the Circuit just experienced within the walls of Disney and Universal Studios would continue.
Shane RogersBefore Chisholm’s arrival, fierce competition struck a disharmonious chord among Circuit attendees split on which party to attend, threatening the event’s success and future. Chisholm’s desire to produce “an amazing event like no other, even if we only sell three tickets” leaves an impression and precedence that no other promoter or party producer has ever given us. The Circuit is alive and thriving because of those like Johnny Chisholm and the people around him who make his magic happen.
*Donna Summer* at One Mighty Party made Circuit history as a music legend returned to a primarily Gay and Lesbian community having once criticized that same group. Her Circuit debut last week facilitated by music insider *Arlene Weiss* of Los Angeles, drove the ticket sales sky high to record levels for One Mighty Party—all benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Industry leaders regard Ms. Weiss and Chisholm’s efforts to obtain Donna Summer "monumental" and certainly historic. Many wonder aloud how Chisholm could have been so lucky as to have had Weiss in his corner. The answer...when all that is good about the Circuit comes together, success is a certainty. Reinvention is working.
JustCircuit provided the world coverage of REUNION EVENTS all One Mighty Weekend long. The unique and free service enabled thousands of interested viewers around the world a glimpse of the world-famous Reunion pool parties and performers. Those unable to join in the fun are not excluded as JustCircuit brought the party to THEM! And again, for free. Despite a series of confusing and unexpected setbacks during the weekend, including blocked views and room reassignments at the host hotel, the show did go on thanks to the determination and dedication of the JustCircuit crew which focused upon the “big picture” and conquered the diverse conditions both visibly and behind the scenes.
Not enough can be said regarding the incredible talents of Chisholm’s One Mighty Weekend staff whose talents vary on many levels. Perhaps his two greatest assets are personal assistant *Angie Denmon* and financial assistant *Mike Young*. Their efforts proved to those watching how important their efforts were to Johnny Chisholm to insure the weekend’s success. In fact, most observers agree that despite a few errors in judgment by some, the One Mighty Weekend team succeeded in making Chisholm’s weekend a very big success. Hats off to you all!
The Circuit Party of the Year One Mighty Party (JustCircuit Awards 2006) was made bigger and better with the addition of the hilarious Kathy Griffin to the area now known as the “new holding tank” at Disney/MGM Studios. She didn’t miss a beat, even picking up on the medical event which took place moments before she took the stage. *DJ Eddie Baez's* welcoming set was an amazing touch to get the overflow crowds in the mood for the evening. Headlining *DJ Roland Belmares'* set became more incredible with each song. Following the Donna Summer performance, it was Belmares’ closing number from years gone by "Xanadu" which was lit with a $250,000. synchronized fireworks display. This was the Circuit’s “inside joke of the weekend” and made an amazing reaction consisting of screams and smiles among those familiar with the song’s connection to Belmares’ past.
The old standard Colosseum Party was as chaotic, exciting and off the hook as it has always been known to be, with the return of consistent DJ talent (*DJ Manny Lehman*) and the Collie’s "girls" *Circuit Mom*, *Power Infiniti* and the incomparable Queen of Circuit *JoJo Infiniti*. Incredible lasers by *Kyle Garner* (Laseronics.com) made the "return" of the Colosseum Party memorable. The weekend certainly made up for the past failures, including the "Debacle of No-Admittance" for ticket holders a few years back.
Despite the consistent drizzle of rain on Friday, Beach Ball with *DJ Alyson Calagna* (not to be confused with the Galveston, Texas rip-off of the same name) was only 100 tickets shy of a total sell-out. This event has repositioned Calagna as one of the very top DJ's in the Circuit as she displayed an unquestionably masterful set that will be talked about for years to come. Some are already calling her performance the best of the weekend.
Unlike the previous years, the famous Arabian Nights afterhours reportedly failed to sell out despite the incredible DJ talent offered. Most remarkable was DJ Tony Moran's Sunday afterhours set dedicated to the memory of his late partner Beau Clarke, whose memorial service was held the night prior to this event. Although most attendees were unaware of this fact (this author WAS aware…) the beautiful set was the icing on the cake for the incredible and MIGHTY weekend.
With all eyes now on Chisholm's expansion of One Mighty Party beginning June 29 in Paris, Chisholm will again be relying upon the strengths he currently enjoys with a supportive Circuit and efforts of exceptionally talented individuals. The risk of large international investment is overshadowed by the risk of failing to acknowledge those who have worked so diligently to insure success for Chisholm and the Circuit as a whole. All bets are on the man with the big heart who can see the big picture like no other!
