Originally from the Washington D.C. area; DJ Mike Pope has called Atlanta, Georgia his home for 14 years. Having had a deep appreciation of electronic music dating back to the early 90’s, he eventually became inspired to channel this passion towards becoming a DJ. Mike recalls that he initially felt inspired to pursue his DJ aspirations after experiencing memorizing sets by DJ’s Tony Moran, Chris Cox and Hex Hector. In 2006 he landed his very first solo gig, and in the spring of 2009, Keith decided to really branch out and focus on becoming a DJ. Using his talent, in only one short year, he acquired two residencies in DC, a residency on DanceMixAmerica airing three times a week, and in September of 2009 was picked up to do his very own two-hour dance radio show every Friday and Saturday night on a popular dance radio station in Sydney, Australia. Keith also is a regular on NRRRadio.com, SobelNation Radio, & WildCatFM Radio, with occasional appearances on Fusion Radio Chicago. In 2010, Keith DJ'ed a two hour set in front of a massive crowd for Capital Pride in Washington, DC as well as Baltimore Pride. He has played numerous venues in DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York City. Hitting up the nightlife in Chicago, I was treated to such a diverse scene...since I am such a people person-I was fortunate to meet and greet some incredible supporters of clublife. My first official DJ gig was a closet sized booth/no dancing allowed...this venue let me fine tune and hone my performing skills...down the road-I met a friend who brought me to the largest gay attraction of the Midwest-formerly named The Douglas Dunes Resort-now called The Dunes set in the beautiful West Michigan area. This experience gave me the chance to thrill visitors from all around the globe-most of the party people hailed from Chicago-but it was it blast. After my residency, I found a new audience through radio at Western Michigan University's student run station WIDR FM. I held the longest record for hosting an electronic dance show injected with global grooves and a variety of styles of dance genres as well. West Michigan has been very good to me and I am grateful for all the newfound friends I've come to know along my way....thanks to Facebook & my podcast...so much has been accomplished. (“Not to mention the two hard drives full of waves and mp3's.”) My love of music led me to a degree in piano and jazz composition at the University Of Southern Mississippi. “I still enjoy playing the piano, everything from Ragtime to Classics.” Following my education, I moved to Madrid, Spain, where for the next three years, I played piano in jazz and funk bands. Returning to the United States and settling in South Florida, I pursued a music career performing on keyboards in a ten piece disco show band. After hours I could be found hanging out on the dance floors of such DJ legends as Danny Tenaglia, Buc, Peter Stout, Abel and Doug Bryson. “ Mad Respect to All creative DJs.” I was so moved by the sounds emanating from those turntables, that I bought my own gear and honed my skills playing house parties. Ten years later he started spinning when DJ Felicia Villani of Los Angeles took him to a Hollywood Nightclub during the Klub Banshee era of the early 90's (that still exist today). She later explained how to do the BPM counting, handed him two 12" vinyls and turntables and he took off from there. In 1998 he won the Colorado Tavern Guild Award for Best DJ Dance Nightclub in Denver for the entire state of Colorado. He has spun at clubs and events through out the country working alongside the likes of Superstar DJ Keoki, Earl Pleasure, Victor Calderone, & Manny Lehmann among others. His friend and muse Derek Kay, used to call him the Ozzmeister.
